1. Stop the water if you can
Shut off the main water valve if a pipe or appliance is leaking. If you can't find the source, call a plumber. Removing water won't help if more keeps coming in.
2. Stay safe around electricity
Don't walk into standing water near outlets, cords, or appliances. If you can reach the breaker panel without stepping in water, shut off power to the wet area.
3. Move what you can
Get rugs, furniture, and boxes off the wet floor and somewhere dry. Take photos and video before you move things, for your insurance company.
4. Get the water out fast
