A sump pump usually fails at the worst time: during a heavy rain, a fast snowmelt, or a power outage. If yours stopped and the basement is taking on water, call Longo at (413) 779-9050. We answer 24/7 for water damage across Western Massachusetts and Northern Connecticut.
Stay safe first
Don't walk into standing water if it could reach outlets, cords, or appliances. If you can reach your breaker panel without stepping in water, shut off power to the basement. If you can't, wait for help.
Why sump pumps fail
- The power went out and there's no battery backup.
- The float switch got stuck, so the pump never turned on.
- The pump was running nonstop and burned out.
- The discharge line is frozen or clogged, so water has nowhere to go.
Once the water is out, have a plumber check the pump so it doesn't happen again.
What you can do while you wait
- Move boxes, rugs, and furniture off the wet floor to a dry spot upstairs.
- Take photos and video for your insurance company.
- Don't run a household vacuum on wet carpet.
What we do when we get there
We pull out the standing water. Our truck-mounted equipment extracts water from floors, carpet, and pad much faster than a shop vac can.
We check what you can't see. We measure moisture in walls, floors, and pad so nothing wet gets left behind.
We dry it out and come back. We set dehumidifiers and air movers, then return to check moisture until everything is dry.
We handle mold if it's started. A basement that stays damp for more than a day or two can start growing mold. Longo does mold remediation too.
